The Yorkshire Heritage Coast encompasses some of the most breathtaking beaches and coastline in the country. Where the North York Moors National Park meets the sea and stretching from Saltburn on Sea in the north, down to Bridlington and Flamborough Head in the south, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Towering, rugged cliffs form the path of the well trodden Cleveland Way and gaze down upon mile after mile of stunning golden beaches. Clinging to the cliffs along the coast are traditional bustling seaside towns and tiny tranquil fishing villages.  Whitewashed houses cluster around the coast road and offer a whole range of attractions for tourists and holidaymakers.

Sea fishing is a very popular pastime on this stretch of coast. The deep, cold waters, sweeping beaches and piers are ideal. Marske, Saltburn, Runswick, Sandsend and Whitby each offer superb conditions for fishermen.

Saltburn is a traditional Victorian seaside resort with spectacular views, a unique cliff top lift and splendid pier reaching out to the sea.  To the south of Saltburn lie the picturesque coastal villages of Staithes, and Sandsend. Runswick Bay has a wide sandy beach, the village is made up of a collection of quaint whitewashed fishermen's cottages and cobbled streets perched on the side of the steep cliffs.

Whitby, most famous for its Jet jewellery, Captain Cook connections and Dracula is marked by the spectacular ruins of Whitby Abbey set high on the cliff tops above. The bustling fishing harbour, with its swing bridge joining the two sides of the town is very popular with tourists.

Robin Hoods Bay is just a mile down the coast, and easily reached from the cliff top walk. From the tranquil, picture perfect village with its little red roofed...
