The magnificent valley that forms the Vale of Pickering stretches out between the Yorkshire Wolds, the Howardian Hills, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Coast, and offers outdoor lovers some of the best walking and cycling country in the north of England.

The landscape is mainly rural, making this a perfect area for walkers and for exploring the many small market towns and pretty villages scattered throughout the beautiful countryside. Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Malton are some of the largest market towns and visitors can enjoy good shopping, transport links and a good choice of accommodation, pubs and eateries. 

This is an historic area and there are numerous, interesting sites within easy reach for all the family to visit, including ancient archeological sites, Castles, Museums, Theme Parks and Mansion Houses. The area is also served by the heritage steam railway which runs from Grosmont to Pickering, where visitors can unwind by taking a relaxing trip back through time, chugging sedately through the countryside whilst taking in all the wonderful sights and sounds. 

This is a nature lover's paradise. Wildlife in the vale is varied and plentiful and there are many species of plants, birds, mammals and insects inhabiting the moorlands and valley. Fishermen will enjoy exploring the rivers which are naturally inhabited by brown trout, grayling and Chub, and provide the perfect pastime for relaxing days out. Walking and cycling are popular in the area, there are many marked routes and trails across the vale for those who seek fresh air and the exhilaration of the great outdoors.
