The Vale of Mowbray is a low lying, lush green area of North Yorkshire, which is encompassed by the Yorkshire Dales, the Hambleton Hills and the North York Moors. The scenery here is stunning, the gently rolling hills and the numerous meandering rivers create a tapestry of rich green landscape which is perfect for walking and exploring the beautiful countryside.

In contrast to its neighbouring areas, the villages and towns in the Vale of Mowbray are made up of brick rather than stone built houses, and separated by green hedges and small woodland areas, rather than the traditional dry stone walls. This is very fertile land which is mainly farmed for crops, and visitors can be sure to enjoy the very best of the fresh produce available here.

The historic market town of Bedale with its weekly market, quaint cobbled square and original market cross is a favourite with tourists. There are several sites of historical interest to visit, including the Gothic church of St.Gregory, an underground ice house, which was once used for preserving and storing food, and an ancient apothecary leech store dating back to the 18th century. The town also has a small museum and plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants to visit.

The Vale of Mowbray has become famous for its delicious Vale of Mowbray pork pies, which have been produced here since the early 19th century. The traditional recipe delicacies are made using only the finest fresh ingredients and are certainly worth trying!

The bustling market town of Northallerton has become a major trading town, and still holds its traditional market and a weekly cattle auction in Applegarth Court, and farmers bring in sheep, cattle and horses to be traded.
