Nidderdale is a breathtakingly picturesque part of Yorkshire which has, not surprisingly, been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The landscape is an atmospheric mix of lush green valleys, pretty unspoiled villages and rugged moorlands.

The natural beauty of Nidderdale has long been the subject for artists whose paintings have made it such a well visited place and a firm favourite with photographers and even film companies who have used the wonderful scenery as a backdrop for many well known and historic films.

Nidderdale hosts a famous annual agricultural show and its own festival which draw the crowds from miles around. The festival is held at Pateley Bridge in July and includes music by local and visiting artists, street theatre and local history events, and guided walks around the town with informative talks on local subjects.

The area has so many places of interest and so much to do that it is the perfect place to spend a holiday or short break and there is plenty of accommodation around to suit everyone. There are a number of world heritage sites and historic houses, Abbeys and Churches to visit and for an interesting day out there is a working mill at Glasshouses, an award winning museum, a number of traditional craft workshops and a small theatre. Gouthwaite Bird Sanctuary and Fountains Abbey are close by, as is the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Pateley Bridge is the largest town serving the area. It has a bustling colourful market, plenty of shopping and welcoming cafes, tea rooms and cosy pubs in which to rest and refuel after an exhausting day spent exploring or enjoying the local activities.
