Whitby

This ancient seaport has a wealth of shopping opportunities. From shops selling rocks, shells and other seaside memorabilia to trendy boutiques you'll find it easy to find a bargain. The exceptional scenery has also produced a buzzing arts scene with lots of local galleries.

If your timings right you might manage to catch the twice yearly Whitby Goth festival, inspired by the heritage of Dracula but if you miss it over the summer months the town is rife with different events. From the Whitby Regatta which, with it's three day treasure hunt is ideal for children to more traditional life boat shows you'll be sure to find something for every taste. As for activities there are plenty of opportunities for surfing, fossil hunting or even renting a boat to explore further out to sea.

If the seascape isn't appealing then make sure you extend your visit to the nearby areas. Whitby is closely surrounded by pastoral views and walks and is well within reach of beautiful Yorkshire villages such as Goathland as well as quieter seaside resorts such as Robin Hoods Bay. For the seasoned walker the trails for Cleveland Way and the Lyke Wake Walk are all close by.

The diversity Whitby offers means there's something for everyone and with so much to enjoy this picturesque town is perfect for a day out or a longer break.
